It is derived from the hymn Ana Bekoah, using the first letter of each word. Traditionally this inscription is followed by "Praised be His glorious sovereignty throughout all times". The next three lines are names of angels: Yophiel, Urpaniel and Raphael (for healing). This amulet is thought to protect against pollution, internal or external, with the words from Psalm 49:6.
